Farmhouse Update - Old Chatham

Clients wanted a thoroughly modern update to a traditional Old Chatham farmhouse. A bold palette and unexpected colors put a fresh take on the space, and showcases the artwork. Modern lighting provides refreshing contrast to eclectic furnishings. Before photos at the end.

Seeking updates to a weekend home, I was asked to improve the color palette, better the function of a small bathroom, a loft media room and a guest room. I warmed up the palette, created a custom bookcase for the media room, and gutted and renovated the small bathroom with fixtures and a design to better serve the space.

Copake Lake House

My clients desired a complete renovation/re-envisioning of the guest wing of their midcentury lake house in New York's Hudson Valley.  Primary goals- brighter spaces, add a second full bathroom, improve storage- all in a 3 bedroom, 1 bath, 575SF existing space. 
I converted two existing closets and a bit of the largest bedroom into a full en suite bath. The existing bathroom's layout and storage was improved, and deliberate choices made to make the room feel larger, more luxurious, and more conducive to sharing. 
Multiple built-in light sources were added. Extensive use of mirrors make the spaces feel larger, and bounce more light around. By removing and shifting a wall, the entry was enlarged. There is now proper storage for off-season accessories and extra bedding. Each space now has its own climate control, with built-in remote access to control temperature and humidity.

This extensive remodel improves the layout. Homeowners wanted more functional workspace and a bright, beachy feel. Changing a galley kitchen to a U-shape (see before photos), and adding an eating peninsula drastically improved utility. 
I increased the amount of usable work space, improved the flow, and gave the owners privacy where they needed it and more openness where they wanted it.

Furnishings from a previous residence are reinterpreted for their new home. Textiles inspired by menswear fabrics appoint the living room, while luxurious fabrics adorn the custom-made daybed in the sunroom/study.

This tastefully updated home has a dream Farmhouse/Modern kitchen/great room; perfectly suited to carefree entertaining. Three bedrooms on one end, and a huge, light-filled loft on the other end that can serve any number of purposes.

An outdated home office was doing a poor job serving the homeowners' needs. We emptied the room and started over, checking off the wish list along the way. A warm, inspiring space? Check. Storage for everything and everything in its place? Check. Taking the style factor up to the sublime? Check.

This blank-slate Hudson Valley ranch house gets a lively, era-appropriate update for short term rental. A few choice vintage pieces, paired with retro-inspired reproductions, create a modern, livable, pet-friendly rental space.

This update proves smart aesthetic choices offer major change on a budget. I added modern elements to a transitional space to reflect the homeowners' taste, and to freshen up the feel of the rooms.

I’ve always dreamed of having a clean, modernist home, and I’m happy to say that Alice and her team at Atelier Cohen led the way to making that dream a reality! I couldn’t be more happy with the project, my house looks like it could be featured in a Kinfolk magazine.
